While Neeraj couldn’t defend his Diamond League title, he showcased his prowess with a best effort of 83.80 meters in an intensely competitive field.

Neeraj Chopra, who holds the Indian national record with an impressive 89.94 meters, secured the silver medal in a closely contested battle. Last year, he had also won the World Championship silver at the same venue with an 88.13-meter throw.

Neeraj Chopra’s journey in Eugene began with a foul on his initial attempt. However, he quickly rebounded with a solid effort of 83.80 meters on his second throw, propelling him to the second position behind Jakub Vadlejch, who had started with an 84.01-meter effort.

Despite a throw of 81.37 meters on his third attempt, followed by another foul, Neeraj Chopra was unable to overtake Jakub Vadlejch. The latter managed to maintain his lead despite only recording one valid throw from his first four attempts.

Jakub Vadlejch’s Triumph

Jakub Vadlejch, the silver medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, saved his best for last, delivering a remarkable throw in his final attempt to secure victory over Neeraj Chopra for the second time this year. Vadlejch had previously defeated Neeraj Chopra at the Zurich Diamond League event last month.

Finland’s Oliver Helander secured the third position with a throw of 83.74 meters.
